A landmark pilgrimage of prayer, The Way of Love, is taking place within our Archdiocese each Lent, witnessing for the Gospel of Life here in Greater Cincinnati.
Archbishop Pilarczyk, in his letter of support for The Way of Love, says, “Please know that I gladly give my blessing to the activities that you have planned for the season of Lent... May God bless you for your dedication to His gift of life.” We hope to help both our parishioners and the community experience a deepened reverence for life as they give witness to our Catholic faith. This prayer walk is based on Faithful for Life: A Moral Reflection (NCCB, 1995).
Remembering the spiritually wounded parents, families and their more than 48 million babies who have died these past thirty four years in our nation by legalized abortion, our rosary walk will be one of reverence. Awareness will deepen in the hearts of the pilgrims that God’
Mission: hold steadfastly to the Truth…each man, woman and child born and waiting-to-be-born, has the God-given dignity of Life. The Way of Love is witness to His Truth, shared with His love, that the Light of Jesus brings the joy of conversion and the celebration of God’s Mercy for ALL people
We are reminded of the words of Martin Luther King Jr.:
I HEREBY PLEDGE MYSELF—MY PERSON AND BODY—TO THE NONVIOLENT MOVEMENT. THEREFORE I WILL KEEP THE FOLLOWING TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1. MEDITATE daily on the teachings and the life of Jesus. 2. REMEMBER always that the nonviolent movement in Birmingham seeks justice and reconciliation—not victory. 3. WALK and Talk in the manner of love for God is love. 4. PRAY daily to be used by God in order that all men might be free. 5. SACRIFICE personal wishes in order that all men might be free. 6. OBSERVE with both friend and foe the ordinary rules of courtesy. 7. SEEK to perform regular service for others and for the world. 8. REFRAIN from the violence of fist, tongue or heart. 9. STRIVE to be in good spiritual and bodily health. 10. FOLLOW the direction of the movement and of the captain on a demonstration.
I sign this pledge having seriously considered what I do and with the determination and will to persevere. NAME __________________________________________________ (Please print neatly) ADDRESS___________________________________________
May our souls be cleansed of any unforgiveness. May we make reparation for our own sins and the sins of others, especially for the grave sin of abortion which weighs heavily upon our hearts and the heart of this great nation.
Throughout these years when The Way of Love takes place and afterwards, we hope and pray for God’s peace and guidance. We ask for His special protection we receive in the Blood of Jesus. We ask for a multitude of angels to surround us. We ask that this pilgrimage will heal and give hope to all involved and prayed for, regardless of age, race and religion.
We pray for all to understand and to embrace that God ordained the sanctity of life for every woman, man and child, those born and those waiting-to-be-born, from conception to natural death. Amen.
